WHY AND HOW GOD CREATED PLANTS--$16.95 (Ages 10 and up; 73 pages) Students will go through a study of the ten kinds of plants, and have hands-on experience with each of them. The introductory material is a study of the basic element of most plants - seeds. There is emphasis on Jesus Christ being the "Good Seed" from Whom all life emanates. Students create their own textbook as they do their assignments and research. After studying the plant kingdom, students are asked to answer the question: WHY did God create plants? Students DEFINE, EXPLAIN, and ILLUSTRATE the major vocabulary words for each of the ten plant types. They then use religious writings or their scriptures of choice to study the spiritual use and symbolism of the kinds of plants God created. The ten types of plants and the major vocabulary words in this guidebook are: The Study of Primitive Plants Algae Fungus Diatoms Moss Parasite Mold Mushroom Example of a Learning Exercise: "Find out what nutrients are found in the type of algae called kelp. How do people use kelp? There is a human disease that is caused by a lack of iodine-a major mineral found in kelp. What is that disease and what gland of the body does it affect? Write a report about your findings, and draw a picture of the algae kelp." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "Yeast is a fungi. Do a research report about yeast. Write about its history and how it is used by mankind. What does yeast require in order to grow? HOW does it grow? The scriptures refer to yeast as leaven. Look up leaven" in your Bible. In your report write what you found. Also answer this question: What is the significance of the Jewish 'unleavened bread'?" The Study of Ferns Fossils Fronds Spore cases Coal Example of a Learning Exercise: "Explain and illustrate with pictures why ferns are considered to be 'two generation' plants." Example of a Learning Exercise for use as a service project: "Do a research project on the use of ferns in flower arrangements. Write down what types, sizes, and colors are used. Make an arrangement of flowers using ferns and give it to someone who is in need spiritually or physically."
The Study of Herbs Medicinal Healing Nourishment Example of a Learning Exercise: "Do a research project on the herb 'fanilla.' You may be very surprised at some of your discoveries! Draw a map where vanilla grows best. Outline in a report all your findings." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "The scriptures refer to a 'balm in Giliad'. There is even a song written about the Balm of Giliad. The herb called 'balm' has some very significant qualities. Find its references in the scriptures, and then research its use as a medicine. Write your findings in a report, listing how hay is: seeded, grown, harvested, stored, eaten. Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "Look up Isaiah 40:1-8. write your feelings on this scripture, specifically on the references about grass." The Study of Flowers Annuals Biennials Perennials Wild Example of a Learning Exercise: "Using the pages in this section as guides, research and draw the various flowers that bloom in different kinds of climates. Also research and draw a map of a country that has that kind of climate." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "Read Matthew 6:28-29. What kind of 'lily' was Jesus referring to? Research the kinds of lilies that grow in the fields of Israel and draw one. Color it with colored pencils. Write a paragraph expressing your feelings about the lily and what Jesus said about it."

Nurture the plant according to a gardener's directions, or from a gardening book. Daily write your observations and discoveries as it grows." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "There are many scriptural references to the word 'fruit'. Look up at least ten scriptures and write them down. Also write the different meanings of the word 'fruit' as used in the scriptures."

Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "Make a list of vegetables which grow on vines. Draw one of them on the vine. Answer this question: 'What did Jesus mean when He said He was the True Vine?"
The Study of Shrubs Woody Flowering Herbal Ornamental Example of a Learning Exercise: "Every year, most shrubs need to be pruned. Do a aresearch project on pruning and find out (a) When pruning should be done, (b) Where it should be done on the individual branches, (c) What tools are used for pruning, (d) How to tell whether a branch is dead or just dormant." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "There are many references in the scriptures to 'branches'. List at least five of these references and write your interpretation of their meaning. Optional: Also find out what a General Authority has said concerning the meaning."

Then as an extra assignment, paint a picture of mountains and pines." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "Read the account in Genesis 2:8-17 concerning the 'tree of life' and the 'tree of knowledge of good and evil.' Think bout this scripture and write your feelings. Draw the two different tress as you imagine them."
The Study of Weeds Common Noxious Weed control Example of a Learning Exercise: "Some people refer to marijuana as a 'weed'. Research this plant and find out why it is dangerous and what it does to the human brain." Example of a Learning Exercise from the scriptures: "Look up 'thorn' in your Bible Index and write at least three of the scriptures which use this word. (Notice that the word 'briers' is often used in connect with 'thorns'.) Also look up 'thistle' and write these scriptures."
